15 Dec Goodbye Scotland, hello Germany
Day 233 – 234 (23/24 Oct 2013)
No, we have not fallen off the face of the earth– yet,
and..no, we are not done traveling–yet!
Much has happened and we just simply have some catching up to do!
After packing all of our belongings and trusty, steel steeds back in the van, we left the Steelend Farm in Scotland, and headed down to Dover to catch the ferry back to Calais, France, that evening.
Our plan was to find a place to sleep near Calais and then start riding our bikes back to Germany the next morning, while Ute was going to drive her bus home.
Unfortunately, Ute’s bus started to make funny noises on our way to the ferry and showed to have more problems once we reached France; the steering became more difficult and it gradually lost more power. We still managed to find a place to set up camp for the night and since it was close to midnight we decided to look the vehicle over in the morning.
To our disappointment, the car did not fix itself over night. We also were not able to find any visible defects, nor did we have any tools to fix anything if we would have found the actual problem. Luckily, the car is still drivable, we just would not be able to break any speed records.
For the last few days, Ron and I were really excited and looked forward to ride our bikes for the next couple of weeks. However, we felt bad to leave Ute with her not so trustworthy vehicle at the moment and decided to drive home with her instead, should she break down for good somewhere.
It took us until late at night, but we managed to arrive at home safe and sound.
So here we are… back in Germany, visiting friends and family.
